Special Education Aide - Structured Learning Classroom (SLC)
Overview
Support students with autism and communication disorders in a Structured Learning Classroom (SLC). Assist the special education teacher in delivering individualized instruction and behavioral support. Work with students from preschool through middle school, helping them build language, communication, and functional skills. You will implement Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies and adapt to each student's Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). This role is central to fostering inclusion and generalization of skills in a highly structured environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Prepare instructional materials and classroom resources under teacher guidance.
- 2Maintain accurate student records and assist with required reports.
- 3Support substitute teachers with classroom logistics and routines.
- 4Assist students with physical disabilities, including lifting and transferring as needed.
- 5Implement behavior management plans and positive behavior supports.
- 6Deliver individualized instruction per each student's IEP goals.
- 7Guide individual and small-group activities to reinforce learning and social skills.
- 8Supervise students inside and outside the classroom to ensure safety.
- 9Communicate student progress and concerns promptly to the lead teacher.
- 10Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information and records.
Requirements9
- 1High School diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or two years of higher education preferred.
- 2SBEC certification as an Educational Aide (must complete process after hire).
- 3Ability to work with children with disabilities, following verbal and written instructions.
- 4Proficiency in using general office equipment and maintaining records.
- 5Physical capability to lift 25 lbs and assist with student transfers and positioning.
- 6Emotional control under stress and ability to handle frequent interruptions.
- 7Commitment to professional development and adapting to diverse student needs.
- 8Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques is a plus, though not required.
- 9Willingness to participate in staff training and special events as assigned.
