Senior Stress Engineer, Nuclear Microreactor & Dynamics
Overview
Senior Stress Engineer owns structural loads, vibration, and dynamic analyses for Kaleidos portable microreactors at scale. You will collaborate with structures, mechanical design, thermal, nuclear, and test teams to ensure integrity across manufacturing, transport, handling, deployment, and operation. This role blends hands-on analysis with cross-functional partnership in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment. You will help set best practices for loads and verification within a growing organization.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build static, dynamic, and transient load cases for reactor systems and transport configurations to enable safe design margins
- 2Design and execute structural dynamics analyses including modal, random vibration, shock, sine vibration, and fatigue assessments
- 3Implement explicit dynamics simulations to capture nonlinear reactor response during seismic and transport events
- 4Define transportation and handling environments across road, rail, air, and sea modes to inform verification plans
- 5Generate load cases and environments for structural sizing and verification
- 6Conduct FE analyses using ANSYS and Abaqus or similar tools
- 7Collaborate with design engineers to influence hardware architecture and joint design with a focus on reliability
- 8Support test planning and correlation including shaker tests and modal surveys
- 9Develop and maintain analysis documentation and regulatory interface materials
- 10Contribute to root cause analyses and design improvements and establish loads and dynamics best practices
Requirements7
- 1Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field
- 24+ years of professional experience in stress, loads, dynamics, or structural analysis for complex mechanical systems
- 3Strong fundamentals in structural mechanics, dynamics, and vibration
- 4Experience with finite element modeling and analysis of metallic and composite structures
- 5Proficiency with industry-standard FEA tools such as ANSYS and Abaqus or Nastran
- 6Familiarity with design allowables, safety factors, and margin-of-safety methodologies
