Scientific Software Developer - Data Foundry
Overview
Lilly seeks a Scientific Software Developer to build AI-native drug discovery systems. The role focuses on creating scalable software solutions that empower scientists through robust data pipelines APIs and MLOps infrastructure. This position drives innovation across multiple discovery pillars while collaborating closely with research teams.
What You'll Do11
- 1Design and build data processing pipelines for chemical biological and high throughput screening datasets ensuring FAIR compliance and machine-actionability
- 2Develop RESTful APIs and microservices providing programmatic access to LIMS ELNs and analytical databases
- 3Support continuous improvement of LIMS systems to meet evolving scientific workflows security and scalability standards
- 4Build ML deployment pipelines with experiment tracking model versioning containerized serving and automated retraining
- 5Implement model observability including drift detection performance alerting and lifecycle management
- 6Collaborate with Methods4Insight to operationalize cheminformatics statistical and AI/ML models as production APIs
- 7Develop agent-ready APIs with structured error handling audit trails and monitoring for autonomous AI agents
- 8Create automation workflows connecting lab equipment scheduling systems and instrument data streams with metadata traceability
- 9Build modular reusable automation components enabling scientists to configure without coding
- 10Validate prototypes through iterative scientist feedback before handing off for enterprise scaling
- 11Manage cloud-native components using AWS Kubernetes and DevSecOps practices for containerized workflows
Requirements11
- 1B.S./M.S/PhD in Computer Science Bioinformatics or related STEM field
- 2BS with 10+ years scientific software development experience MS with 5+ years or PhD with 1+ year
- 3Proficiency in Python and one additional language Java C# Go TypeScript or Rust
- 4Strong SQL skills and experience building RESTful APIs data pipelines and microservices
- 5Experience with MLOps tools MLflow W&B model registries and monitoring systems
- 6Familiarity with cloud platforms AWS Azure or GCP and containerization Docker Kubernetes
- 7Exposure to AI agent infrastructure MCP frameworks or API integration for machine learning systems
- 8Hands-on experience with cheminformatics tools RDKit Schrödinger or MOE
- 9Data warehousing knowledge Postgres Redshift BigQuery Snowflake and scientific data standards
- 10LIMS/ELN experience Benchling or similar laboratory instrument integration systems
- 11Workflow orchestration skills with Prefect Airflow Nextflow or WDL
