What You'll Do9

  • 1Deliver total nursing care to assigned labor and delivery patients, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes.
  • 2Supervise assigned personnel, delegating tasks and ensuring compliance with VHC Health policies.
  • 3Administer medications, monitor maternal and fetal status, and respond to emergencies using ACLS protocols.
  • 4Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record, communicating updates to the care team.
  • 5Educate patients and families on labor, delivery, and postpartum care, promoting health and recovery.
  • 6Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and other nurses to coordinate care transitions and discharge planning.
  • 7Maintain a safe environment by adhering to infection control and safety standards, including BLS and NRP readiness.
  • 8Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  • 9Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.

Requirements8

  • 11 year of nursing/patient care in an acute care setting required.
  • 2Associate's in Nursing required; Bachelor's in Nursing preferred.
  • 3Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or Compact State Licensure required.
  • 4BLS certification required; ACLS or PALS satisfies this requirement.
  • 5ACLS certification required for Labor and Delivery (new graduates have 1 year to complete).
  • 6NRP certification required for Labor and Delivery (new graduates have 1 year to complete).
  • 7Interpretive, management, and supervisory skills inherent in the position.
  • 8Written, telephone, and manual dexterity skills required.
