Registered Nurse, Labor and Delivery (Per-Diem)
Overview
Own direct and indirect nursing care for labor and delivery patients at VHC Health, a hospital in Washington, DC. Manage assigned personnel and coordinate care in a per-diem role, working onsite. What You'll Do9
- 1Deliver total nursing care to assigned labor and delivery patients, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes.
- 2Supervise assigned personnel, delegating tasks and ensuring compliance with VHC Health policies.
- 3Administer medications, monitor maternal and fetal status, and respond to emergencies using ACLS protocols.
- 4Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record, communicating updates to the care team.
- 5Educate patients and families on labor, delivery, and postpartum care, promoting health and recovery.
- 6Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and other nurses to coordinate care transitions and discharge planning.
- 7Maintain a safe environment by adhering to infection control and safety standards, including BLS and NRP readiness.
- 8Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
- 9Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
Requirements8
- 11 year of nursing/patient care in an acute care setting required.
- 2Associate's in Nursing required; Bachelor's in Nursing preferred.
- 3Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or Compact State Licensure required.
- 4BLS certification required; ACLS or PALS satisfies this requirement.
- 5ACLS certification required for Labor and Delivery (new graduates have 1 year to complete).
- 6NRP certification required for Labor and Delivery (new graduates have 1 year to complete).
- 7Interpretive, management, and supervisory skills inherent in the position.
- 8Written, telephone, and manual dexterity skills required.
