Recovery Support Specialist
Overview
The Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) provides direct support and supervision to patients receiving substance abuse and behavioral health services. Working under the direction of the Recovery Support Supervisor and in collaboration with clinical nursing and medical staff the RSS promotes patient safety engagement and recovery support and therapeutic milieu management. Responsibilities include supporting patients in daily activities leading patients in educational and recreational activities facilitating psychoeducational and recovery-oriented programming assisting with crisis intervention and de-escalation monitoring patient behavior and safety and contributing to a structured trauma-informed treatment environment.
What You'll Do9
- 1Monitors patient activities provides security safety checks completes documentation includes rounds sheets therapeutic activities notes and End of Shift reports records patient behavior
- 2Participates in direct patient care ensures patient safety utilizes trauma-informed approaches assists with de-escalation behavioral crisis intervention and emergency response procedures
- 3Communicates patient concerns and observations promptly to clinical and nursing staff performs all aspects of patient belongings processing for new admissions and visits monitors Business Center Workflex for compliance assists with packing of belongings for discharge
- 4Monitors patient activities at Wellness Center Fitness Center partners with Clinical team to conduct New Patient Orientation assists with visitation program greeting sign-in orientation search and belongings processing demonstrates understanding of recovery-oriented systems of care including 12-Step principles relapse prevention and patient-centered recovery approaches aids in facilitating RCA Clinical Curriculum with notes in medical records system transports patients and/or belongings demonstrates confidentiality exhibits strong communication skills performs additional duties as assigned

- 7Work Environment This position operates within a behavioral health environment including residential inpatient and/or detoxification settings requiring frequent interaction with patients experiencing mental health substance use emotional and behavioral challenges exposure to emotionally distressed individuals behavioral escalation and crisis situations moderate noise level routine use of standard office equipment such as computers phones tablets and photocopiers
- 8Physical Demands Regularly talk or listen frequently use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools controls regularly walk and stand occasionally sit reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl regularly lift and/or move objects up to fifty pounds specific vision abilities include close distance color peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus
- 9Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected compensation $16.00
Requirements11
- 1High school diploma or equivalent
- 2Experience of one year working in behavioral health and/or substance use disorder treatment preferred
- 3Proficiency with all technology hardware systems and tools training provided as needed
- 4Familiarity with behavior modification and 12-step modality
- 5Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
- 6Customer Service concern for meeting internal and external customer needs
- 7Problem Solving ability to identify problems involve others in seeking solutions and conduct appropriate analyses searches for best solutions responds quickly to new challenges
