Overview

You will own physical therapy for children with physical disabilities, injuries, and illnesses, delivering over 5,500 patient sessions annually across New York City. You will report to the Director of Programs and work within a multidisciplinary team of educators, psychologists, and therapists. You will design and adapt treatment plans using evidence-based techniques and specialized equipment, ensuring each child's progress is tracked and optimized. What You'll Do8

  • 1Conduct initial assessments to evaluate each child's physical abilities, limitations, and therapeutic needs, using standardized tools and clinical observation.
  • 2Design and implement individualized treatment plans that target specific developmental goals, aligning with the child's medical history and family input.
  • 3Deliver targeted therapeutic exercises and interventions to enhance mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and endurance, using TheraBand, physioballs, and other equipment.
  • 4Utilize specialized equipment like gait trainers, parallel bars, and biofeedback devices to support rehabilitation objectives.
  • 5Educate children and their families on home exercise programs, using visual schedules and video modeling to ensure adherence and progress.
  • 6Track and document progress via EHR software like Epic or Cerner, revising treatment plans as needed and coordinating with physicians and occupational therapists.
  • 7Partner with schools and community programs to extend therapy beyond clinic sessions, conducting school-based consultations and adapting equipment for classroom use.
  • 8Maintain compliance with NYC DOH guidelines and HIPAA, ensuring a safe and supportive therapy environment for every child.

Requirements8

  • 1Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy (DPT) from an accredited program.
  • 2Current New York State licensure as a Physical Therapist, with NPTE certification.
  • 3Certification in Pediatric Physical Therapy (CPP) from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.
  • 43+ years providing pediatric physical therapy, with demonstrated experience treating cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and orthopedic injuries.
  • 5Strong knowledge of child development, motor learning, and neurodevelopmental treatment techniques.
  • 6Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • 7Proficiency in EHR documentation and progress note writing, with attention to measurable outcomes.
  • 8Ability to adapt to changing environments and patient needs, showing initiative in creative problem-solving.
