Overview

The Associate Aquatic Biologist will support daily healthcare for sea turtles and aquatic species while maintaining programs that promote marine animal stewardship. This role requires flexibility and adaptability to meet varying schedules and priorities.

What You'll Do17

  • 1Assist in providing daily healthcare to sea turtles and aquatic species per FWC regulations
  • 2Maintain various programs and events promoting marine animal stewardship
  • 3Perform administrative tasks educate customers and conduct public speaking
  • 4Manage vehicle and vessel operations and overnight observations
  • 5Collect data and maintain equipment storage
  • 6Learn health anatomy and environmental enrichment through provided materials
  • 7Participate in diet preparation exhibit maintenance water quality systems
  • 8Enter water to remove foreign objects and ensure exhibit cleanliness
  • 9Execute unsupervised shifts and drive department vehicles
  • 10Train volunteers and interns in department programs
  • 11Follow safe policies and comply with FFWCC regulations
  • 12Drive and maintain department vehicles as outlined by SOPs
  • 13Assist with volunteer program training and facility maintenance
  • 14Demonstrate knowledge of aquarium husbandry techniques and emergency procedures
  • 15Participate in research projects and grant writing as directed
  • 16Support conservation education and outreach events
  • 17Provide customer service and prepare internal/external communications

Requirements11

  • 1BS degree in Biology Environmental Science or Zoology preferred
  • 2Current SCUBA and CPR certifications with valid driver's license
  • 3Minimum 5+ years experience with FWC marine turtle permits
  • 4Open Water Diver certification from recognized organization
  • 5Ability to pass annual swim test and complete safety programs
  • 6Strong communication skills and team-oriented attitude
  • 7Flexibility for shifting priorities and schedule changes
  • 8Basic understanding of vitamins medications and administration techniques
  • 9Physical ability to lift 50lbs to waist level and moderate frequency tasks
  • 10Experience with water quality testing and chemical additions
  • 11Commitment to at-will employment and safe working environment
