Overview

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant to generate preliminary information for Eye Clinic providers review patient status and perform refracting and other medical tests. This role drives case management assists patients overcome barriers to eye care provides advocacy ensures sight-saving services. Located at 2130 Stout Street Denver CO 80205. Credentialing and privileging required before start date.

What You'll Do11

  • 1Perform ophthalmic diagnostics and exam preparation including visual acuity visual field testing OCT pachymetry tonometry dilation and refraction using the phoropter
  • 2Assist with procedures alongside providers such as laser procedures and intravitreal injections
  • 3Triage patients to determine risk level and urgency of evaluation using knowledge of common ophthalmic symptoms and established clinic workflows
  • 4Order medications for patients through the electronic health record based on assessment and plan as directed by Eye Clinic providers
  • 5Record and complete ICD-10 billing route slips based on provider notes and submit documentation to Revenue Cycle in a timely manner
  • 6Track high-risk return visits for patients with pathology and in need of follow-up appointments notifying them and scheduling timely visits
  • 7Integrate Eye Care services with Stout Street Health Center staff and outside partners by coordinating care based on eye-visit findings
  • 8Build trusting relationships with patients to support adherence and improved eye health by providing trauma-informed education on diagnosis treatment and plan of care
  • 9Perform optical duties including assisting patients with frame selection fitting measurements and order submission through the lab portal
  • 10Verify completed frame orders for accuracy using a lensometer adjust glasses and repair frames
  • 11Order supplies and eye medications clean and stock exam lanes

Requirements10

  • 15+ years building ETL pipelines with Spark and Airflow
  • 2Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification preferred
  • 3Basic Life Support certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • 4One year of experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant Technician
  • 5Experience with EHR systems
  • 6Experience with patient scheduling referrals and insurance enrollment
  • 7Knowledge of healthcare administration
  • 8Additional Requirement Valid driver’s license required
  • 9Trauma-informed care approach
  • 10Ability to operate complex diagnostic equipment
