What You'll Do9
- 1Deliver BLS-certified care to patients with complex medical and postoperative needs, using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate outcomes.
- 2Coordinate patient care across the unit, prioritizing tasks for multiple patients and adapting to fluctuating volumes in a 12-17 bed environment.
- 3Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to revise care plans, communicate critical information, and ensure continuity of care from admission to discharge.
- 4Educate patients and families on care plans and discharge needs, assessing readiness to learn and addressing cultural and ethnic considerations.
- 5Lead unit initiatives by participating in performance improvement projects and contributing to a culture of safety and excellence as the unit expands to 24 beds.
- 6Attend structured classroom sessions and complete a group evidence-based practice project as part of the 12-month UNC Health Rex Nurse Residency program.
- 7Document patient care in the EHR system, ensuring accurate and timely records that support best outcomes.
- 8Mentor nursing students and new staff, sharing knowledge gained from the residency and clinical experience.
- 9Utilize clinical resources and consult specialists for complex cases, including those at high risk for discharge planning.
Requirements6
- 1Graduation from a school of professional nursing, with enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's nursing program within 4 years of hire if hired after January 6, 2014.
- 2Licensed as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the day of clinical care.
- 3BLS for Healthcare Provider certification required.
- 4No prior experience required; open to new graduates within 12 months of graduation or with less than 6 months of RN experience.
- 5Ability to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays, in a 24/7 hospital environment.
- 6Completion of the NCLEX exam before program start date (September 2026 - November 2026).
