What You'll Do12

  • 1Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction for students with disabilities, incorporating technology tools like Assistive Technology and IEP Goal Tracking Software.
  • 2Analyze student progress data weekly to adjust instruction and create flexible groupings, ensuring every student meets their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • 3Provide timely, actionable feedback on assignments and assessments, using Google Classroom and data dashboards to monitor mastery.
  • 4Integrate instructional technology to personalize learning, including Khan Academy, Read&Write, and other adaptive tools, increasing student agency and engagement.
  • 5Uphold the Student Code of Conduct consistently, implementing positive behavioral interventions and supports aligned with each student's Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
  • 6Serve as an advisor to a group of 12-15 students, facilitating daily advisory lessons and conducting individual conferences to track academic and social-emotional progress.
  • 7Design and lead a weekly C Day club focused on student interests, such as STEM Club or Art & Design, to foster engagement and community.
  • 8Support students during office hours and targeted academic interventions, collaborating with special education staff and related service providers to address diverse learning needs.
  • 9Maintain accurate gradebooks and student records, complying with FERPA and school documentation standards.
  • 10Communicate proactively with families about student progress, strengths, and challenges, building strong home-school partnerships.
  • 11Actively participate in instructional coaching cycles, including data analysis, observation, feedback, and video reflection, to refine teaching practice.
  • 12Attend IEP meetings, professional development sessions, and school events, contributing to a collaborative school culture.

Requirements9

  • 1Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Special Education (LBS1) endorsement required.
  • 2Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • 32+ years of experience teaching students with disabilities in a secondary setting, including Inclusive Classroom Strategies and Differentiated Instruction.
  • 4Proven ability to use data-driven instruction and progress monitoring tools like AIMSweb or DIBELS.
  • 5Experience with co-teaching and collaborative teaming in an inclusive environment.
  • 6Strong knowledge of IEP development and implementation per IDEA guidelines.
  • 7Familiarity with instructional technology such as Google Workspace and adaptive learning platforms.
  • 8Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with students, families, and staff.
  • 9Commitment to equity, inclusion, and high expectations for all learners, especially students of color and those from low-income backgrounds.
