Mainframe Developer with AI/GenAI in Berkeley Heights, NJ
Overview
You will own the build and maintenance of mainframe batch and online applications for a financial services client in Berkeley Heights, NJ, supporting daily production volumes of millions of transactions. You will collaborate with a tight team of COBOL, JCL, and CICS developers, integrating AI/GenAI tools to modernize legacy code. You'll transform business requirements into secure, high-performance solutions, and troubleshoot production incidents as the first line of defense. This contract role offers the chance to drive real change in a legacy environment, blending big iron with modern AI.
What You'll Do7
- 1Design and code COBOL and CICS programs to implement new business features and integrations within the first 90 days.
- 2Develop and maintain JCL and VSAM file structures to optimize batch processing and ensure data integrity.
- 3Integrate AI/GenAI capabilities into mainframe workflows to automate code analysis and reduce manual effort.
- 4Debug and resolve production abends in CICS and batch environments, restoring service within SLA.
- 5Migrate legacy COBOL applications to run on modern z/OS with Db2 and MQ for improved throughput.
- 6Collaborate with business analysts to translate requirements into technical specifications for mainframe modules.
- 7Write and execute unit tests using CA InterTest and Xpediter to ensure defect-free deployments.
Requirements7
- 15+ years programming in COBOL with strong JCL and VSAM skills.
- 23+ years hands-on experience with CICS transactions and TSO/ISPF.
- 32+ years working with Db2 and embedded SQL in mainframe environments.
- 41+ year exposure to AI/GenAI models applied to code generation or modernization.
- 5Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
- 6Experience with Endevor for change management and CA7 for batch scheduling.
- 7Strong debugging skills using Abend-AID and InterTest.
