Fuel Cycle Operations Engineer, Fusion & Process Engineering
Overview
Helion seeks a Fuel Cycle Operations Engineer to commission, operate, test, and evaluate fusion fuel cycle equipment at scale. The role supports Polaris operations and leads testing of fuel balancing, isotope separation, water detritiation, and helium separation. You will own commissioning of design units for Orion and report to the Fuel Cycle Operations Lead in Everett, WA. This role emphasizes ownership, rigorous testing, and delivering practical results in a highly technical environment.
What You'll Do5
- 1Build and validate scalable fuel cycle processes through hands-on R&D, including system buildout, experimental testing, and data analysis
- 2Operate fueling, exhaust processing, and purification activities to support Polaris operations
- 3Lead testing campaigns as a Tritium Authorized User to safely commission and startup radioactive-material related processes
- 4Coordinate remote and onsite commissioning support for fuel cycle processes at Polaris and future Orion facilities
- 5Drive maintenance strategies to improve reliability across the fuel cycle system lifecycle
Requirements5
- 1Bachelor’s in Chemical/Nuclear/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent on-the-job experience
- 25+ years in engineering or operations roles
- 3Strong understanding of operation theory including heat and mass balances, fluid flow, instrumentation, controls, safety, and P&IDs/PFDs
- 4Demonstrated experience designing and leading test campaigns to gather data and elucidate system behavior
- 5Experience commissioning, operating, and troubleshooting issues in operating plant environments
