Enterprise Search Tech Lead
Overview
Lead the design development and optimization of 3M’s enterprise search platform to drive scalable high-performance search capabilities supporting digital experiences and emerging AI applications. Own the end-to-end search ecosystem including ingestion pipelines search APIs index architecture and cloud infrastructure while advancing hybrid retrieval approaches combining traditional and semantic search to enable RAG LLM and agentic AI use cases.
What You'll Do12
- 1Build and maintain Airflow orchestrated ingestion workflows monitoring alerting and CI/CD pipelines
- 2Drive platform evolution toward hybrid retrieval lexical and semantic/vector search to support RAG LLM grounding and agentic AI
- 3Create and maintain technical documentation including C4 architecture models system design diagrams and operational runbooks
- 4Mentor and lead developers on search engineering conducting code reviews and raising engineering standards
- 5Partner with domain architect on long term strategy while executing complex platform changes
- 6Support cross functional teams by troubleshooting search issues monitoring system health and partnering with consuming applications
- 7Be on call for critical issues requiring timely resolution
- 8Own search related development experience in private public government or military environments
- 9Experience with AWS OpenSearch Elasticsearch index design analyzers tokenizers synonyms aggregations relevance tuning performance optimization
- 10Experience with Java 17 Spring Batch and multi module Maven projects
- 11Experience with Kafka MSK messaging producers consumers and stream processing
- 12Proficiency with AWS services S3 IAM Lambda MSK ECS CloudWatch EFS
Requirements11
- 1Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science information systems or technology field completed and verified prior to start
- 2Five five years of search related development experience in private public government or military environment
- 3Seven seven years of overall software engineering experience in private public government or military environment
- 4Experience with AWS OpenSearch Elasticsearch index design analyzers tokenizers synonyms aggregations relevance tuning performance optimization
- 5Experience with Java 17 Spring Batch and multi module Maven projects
- 6Experience with Kafka MSK messaging producers consumers and stream processing
- 7Familiarity with search fundamentals BM25 relevance tuning autocomplete vector search
- 8Experience with embeddings vector databases or RAG pipelines for LLM applications
- 9Experience building and operating Airflow DAGs for data pipeline orchestration
- 10Ability to modernize legacy search platforms or migrate between search engine versions
- 11Strong understanding of search analytics A/B testing for ranking relevance measurement NDCG MRR
