What You'll Do9
- 1Interpret spoken communication between English and Tibetan for parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, and CSE/CPSE sessions.
- 2Facilitate communication during student evaluations, registration, and enrollment appointments.
- 3Serve as a neutral conduit during disciplinary, administrative, and counseling meetings, preserving meaning and intent.
- 4Staff school orientations, workshops, and family engagement events with accurate interpretation.
- 5Interpret during testing and other school-based assignments as needed.
- 6Maintain strict confidentiality for all students, families, and school matters.
- 7Arrive on time and remain for the full duration of each accepted assignment.
- 8Communicate professionally with NTC Language Services, families, and school personnel.
- 9Follow all NTC Language Services, school, and district policies regarding conduct and dress.
Requirements10
- 1Read, write, and speak proficiently in both English and Tibetan.
- 2Interpret spoken communication accurately and completely between both languages.
- 3Understand written information and convey it accurately when required.
- 4Demonstrate strong listening, comprehension, and communication skills.
- 5Learn and use educational and special education terminology effectively.
- 6Available for in-person assignments in NYC, with reliable transportation or other dependable means of travel.
- 7Provide accurate and current availability for as-needed scheduling.
- 8Show reliability, punctuality, and professionalism in all interactions.
- 9Maintain neutrality, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
- 10Previous interpreting experience is preferred but not required; experience in education or special education is valuable.
